I layered saturated paint and inverted the canvas as I painted for a less dense look on this painting. This captured the spiritual essence of my photographs more accurately than putting paint directly onto the canvas. I used a lighter weave material on the painting below so sunlight would be able to shine through the material.

I printed the photographs on acetate. I found them to be the most effective part of my work because the material used was translucent. I over lapped the acetates because I found it interesting that the under layered ones were still revealed.

I finished this project on a high note. Assessments are occurring this week so all the work is done now. Happy HOLIDAYS Everyone!!

Life Painting

We have been given the chance to do life painting both directed by tutors and self directed since we entered the painting discipline. We began by painting with just three tones of black and gradually moved onto using colour and bigger scale. It has been extremely educating and I have learned a lot in terms of how to paint certain objects, brush strokes and colours. Here are some of my life paintings...

I learned the importance of doing a thumbnail sketch because it enhances the finished painting. I also kept colour cards which identified my palette of colours for each painting.

To identify my subject I tried some painting on card. It was a great experiment to mix colours and try to find a solution to recreate the colours in my photographs

I moved onto a bigger scale but while PVA-ing a sheet, it seeped through onto the wall. Both the paint and the glue left some interesting marks on the wall but I decided to paint over this these marks with white paint to salvage my studio wall.

I tried painting on some plastic which I had left over from my materials project. I preferred the reverse side because it was far more subtle.

I became interested in the works of Nan Goldin. She is a photographer who dealt with a lot of very personal subject matters. She was also very interested in one's reflection in a mirror so I decided to try and put my own take on this idea. I took the photographs in a steamed up mirror to make for a more interesting image. I inverted some once I printed them because I found the steaks of water in the mirror more effective that way.

I used the flash in some photographs. This increased the warmth of the colours.
