PAINTING!!! We finally are in a discipline and I am in Painting for the remainder of first year. I am so happy about my decision. We got started immediately by doing lots of contextual research. I found this very intensive and at times laborious but at the same time realised how important it was to instigate this project especially. I looked at artists such as Kiefer, Tauba Auerbach, Ruby Sterling, Alexis Harding and some more too!! They all had one thing in common which was there use of materials other than just paint. This past week, I collected lots of primary research for this project. I took photos this week of what interested me...

I took photos of cars at the start of the week. I liked the shiny, metallic surface and the reflections it created.

I later noticed that the dirt marks and the scratches on the metal also interested me.

I found the idea of metal rusting intriguing as well..

As well as the way the paint peels back off the surface...

I started experimenting yesterday with materials like paint, coffee and washing up liquid. I also tried some plaster inspired by the Spanish artist, Tapies. I found that I enjoyed making the plaster more than the finised look of the plaster itself.
